I love Granny Squares!

free-crochet-pattern

I love granny squares!! I love love love it so much!! I think my caffeine boost just kicked in but nevertheless it's the same excitement every time I see granny squares. :D  I'm always in awe of the number of projects it can be use to. Plus it's easy to work with! Whenever I have ongoing granny square project I make sure to bring a hook and yarn just in case I have time to sneak in some crocheting (especially during doctor's appointment!). It's also my way of getting rid of my phone. I feel so productive when I do that.

There's so many free crochet granny square patterns out there but these are the 3 that I am crocheting right now.

Circle Granny Square by Just be Crafty

This circle to square granny square is a fresh take on the classic granny square which results in a more modern flair to a cherished classic!

Rosie Posie by Cherry Heart
This flower granny square looks like an upgrade of a circle granny. It's so fun to crochet with and is ideal for beginners too! I use 1 color just for trial but you can use different colors on the 1st to 3rd row for the flowers.

Primavera Flower by Dada's Place
This flower granny square is my current fave. The flowers are made using popcorn stitch which makes the flowers to pop more!

I plan to make a removable pillow case out of this but I still don't know how to do it properly.  If you know or have links to any tutorial for that, could you please comment below? I would love to try it.

The Butterfly (Written Pattern)

Hello Dears! Thank you for sending me your warm regards and taking the time to follow my blog & fb posts. You just made me feel so special. :) For the past weeks, I've been getting requests to write a pattern for this cute creature. So I guess it's the right time.

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

I've written them down below and added some pics as well. I hope you like them. If you have any question, please drop me a message on my facebook page and I'll be happy to help. By the way here's the link to the graph pattern.

Materials:
No 8 Monaco Mercerized Cotton Thread (175m)
Crochet steel hook no 2 or 1.95 mm
Magnets 1.5 cm (optional)

Special stitches:
Beginning Shell: (ch3, 2dc, ch3, 3dc)
Shell: (3dc, ch3, 3dc)

Few Simple Tips:
Use 2 strands of crochet thread throughout the rounds.
Cut yarn after each round
On each beginning round, I usually tie the new thread on the last ch3-space of the previous round

Steps:

R1: Chain 12, slip st in first ch

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

R2: Ch3, 2dc, ch3, (3dc, ch3) x 2, (dc, ch3, dc, ch3), (3dc, ch3) x 3, (dc, ch3, dc, ch3), slip st on beginning ch3.

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

R3: Beg Shell on ch3 sp, 3 Shells on next ch3 spaces, skip ch3 sp, 4 shells on next ch3 spaces, slip st on beg chain.

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

R4: Beg Shell on ch3 sp, [*(ch1, dc on 3rd st, ch1)*, Shell] x 7 rep*to*, slip st on beg chain 3.

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

Fold the motif in half (follow the broken line on the pic).

http://bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

For the Antenna: Using the color used on the last round, ch 20 with 2 strands held together. Tie the end of last chain. The excess thread on both ends is about half an inch. You may want to add magnets to help them stick on magnetic surface aka refrigerator. :)
I only used Elmer's All purpose glue, wait for it to settle a bit then put them on both wings.

Coco, the Yorkie

Hello Dears! It's been a long time since I dropped by and write a blog. I hope you are all doing well and happy with your life. :) Summer is almost here in Manila and each day is getting hotter. But who cares? This is the best time to go to the beach and have a good time with family and friends! Right? ;)

bluboxoflove.blogpot.com

Last month one of my close friend, Aby decided to work abroad and as a parting gift, I gave her something cute to keep her company. You are right, that is Coco, the Yorkie. Before she bought Bruno, she planned to have a Yorkie. But I guess everything really happens for a reason. :)

bluboxoflove.blogspot.com

The pattern originally came from a Japanese pattern. Thankfully, Crochet Parfait translated this to an English pattern which you can found here. I only use 1 type of yarn which is Red Heart Crochet & Hand knitting Yarn 120m in white, black & warm brown. Though the yarn is classified as size 4, this is a bit thinner and softer compared to Red Heart Super Saver, so I decided to use hook size 2.5 mm.

The pattern is very much easy to follow but if this is your first time to make an ami, I suggest you watch Amigurumi to go's video on how to attach the parts. Believe me, it is very helpful. ;) Plus, their ami's are cute and free!

Dears, I wish you all have a meaningful and happy Summer! God bless and Happy Crocheting!

Love,
Jho

Red Heart Yarn Reflective from CMB; 5.00 mm hook

One of my dream is to have my name printed on a shirt or sweater, like that of the coveted GAP trademark. :) Well thanks to Tamara Kelly of Moogly for making my dream come true. If you go to her site you can see so many free pattern to choose from, one of which is the Moogly Alphabet which I was dreading to make for a long time now. The pattern is composed of graphs and written patterns for each alphabet that is so easy to follow.

I only crocheted 3 letters which are J-H-O. The letters J & O were the exact copy from the pattern, while H which should be place on the middle was divided in to 2. If you scroll down, you’ll find the pattern for these letters including the modification I made on H.

Falling in love with Amis

Jolly Ele & Sleepy Pan
Jolly Ele & Sleepy Pan

Hello Dears! I hope you are all doing great! :) I've been very busy these past few months and totally neglected this blog. But pity me not because I never forgot my yarn and hook. :D In fact I tried something that I feared for a very long time until now. It's making Amigurumi!

If not because of a request of a client I wouldn't have tried it this year. Good thing I didn't gave in to that fear and bravely accepted the challenge! And now, I am totally in love with these cute creatures. Plus, I had a very friendly yarn to work with. :) With all the unraveling here and there, this Red Heart Super Saver didn't lose it's form resulting to a better looking ami (very far from what I expected!). I've added their solo pic below, included link to pattern and the store where I got the yarns.

MBDC: Ferline Bag & Purse

Hello Dears! Happy October! I hope you are all doing great. I am sorry if I haven't been active for quite a while. I've been busy with other things but I always make sure that I work on my wip during my free time. :)

I had this project waaayy back July and finished it on August. Well actually, my brother finished crocheting it on August. :) The only participation I had on this project was sewing the lining, crocheting the purse and giving feedback during the process. It was at the start that we had difficulty with. For some reason if it was not large, it was small only on the 3rd attempt that we got the right size. But we unraveled it because the supposed to be black yarn we bought had some red to it (this was the first time we experience it so we just let it pass).

The original pattern does not have a round bottom but a rectangular one. It's pretty too! You may want to try it. :) We also altered the handle as requested by my friend. Instead of using single crochet, my brother used back post single crochet. This makes the handle sturdier. :) I also whip up a purse to match the bag. I hope you guys like it.

I got these beautiful yarn from Coats Manila Bay. Just click on the link below to get to their page.

Thank you for dropping by. Happy Crocheting!

The Charming Bruno

The Charming Bruno and myself
I can't believe Bruno was emotional on our first meeting. I love you Bruno!

Hi Dears! I hope you are all doing well. :) I really had a wonderful off. I've got to meet my best friend, Aby and her charming baby Bruno. :) Isn't he a certified fashionista? I love how he rocks his red sweater and his adorable blue shoes (which was by the way a major head turner!).

It was our first time to meet and I was thinking of something to give to him. Thanks Heaven for the wonderful tutorial of Mikey (he's one of the person behind The Crochet Crowd). If you'd like to make one, I've added the video below. For the written pattern, please click here.

I used Red Heart Super Saver in Hot Red which I got from Coats Manila Bay, Inc (I've linked up their Facebook page by the way). Just leave them a message if your interested. You may also buy Cannon and other Red Heart products from them and they'll ship it right at your door step. :)

More of Bruno's below:
Bruno you are really a charmer! I am sure to get you on my future projects. (Photo courtesy of Aby & Roy)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! God bless and Happy Crocheting!

Baby's Eye Candies

Baby's Eye Candies
Baby's Eye Candies

After all the attaching and detaching, finally it's done! Never thought that the balancing part would be difficult but it's worth all the effort. Do you think the baby will love it? 'Coz I'm drooling over it. If only I could keep it for myself to hang above my bed (without the questioning look of my mother and brothers) I will. (maybe I won't they'll think that their ate 'older sister' is getting weirder).

I love how the hoop turn out to be like that of a dream catcher. I've created one without the pattern but it turned out so bad. It didn't stretch much (maybe because of too much stitch?) causing the middle to curve (yep, just like a sifter). I was a little depressed about it, good thing my brother made the dream catcher I so long requested. I just adjusted the stitch to fit the hoop and voila! (I will talk about the dream catcher on my next post.)

Baby's Eye Candies Top View

By the way, in case your interested to where I got this hoop, I bought this along Tabora St. for 9 php only. I believe this one is use for embroidery, so it naturally comes in 2.
The hoop measured 5 1/2 in in diameter and the thickness was about half an inch. I admit I had a hard time wrapping those side with single crochet at first but don't you worry, you'll enjoy it along the way.

I'm sure you are interested with the buntings I used, their pretty cute, ayt? No worries,  they are free patterns made by yours truly :) Just click on the link I included below:
